Why our BPM is more accurate

Most online tempo detectors just look for periodicity in loudness — and often get it wrong by a factor of two (60 instead of 120) or trip on syncopation. Layrix uses the beat_this model, which finds the track's actual downbeats rather than any energy peak, so the tempo matches what DJ software or manual tapping would show.

Matching two tracks or building a playlist? Also check the key in Camelot notation — together these two numbers fully describe a track for harmonic mixing. Hunting for loops or samples? Try splitting into stems to pull a clean drum track at the tempo you need.

How is BPM calculated?

The beat_this model finds the track's actual downbeats (not just loudness peaks) and computes the exact tempo from the intervals between them.

Can it be off by a factor of two (e.g. 70 instead of 140)?

That's common with simple amplitude-peak detectors. Layrix tracks the actual beat, so such errors are rare, though very loose rhythms can still introduce some margin of error.
